James Fortuin appointed Boland CEO

CSA Facebook Post 29/06/2015

After a lengthy application, interview and selection process, Cricket Boland (CB) Board of Directors has appointed James Fortuin as its chief executive officer (CEO). He will assume the role as of Wednesday 1 July.

The appointment follows the retirement of former CEO and South African cricketing legend, Omar Henry on 30 April 2015.

Fortuin brings with him a wealth of managerial and leadership experience, have served as municipal manager in two municipalities in the Western Cape. He also boasts a passion for the game of cricket and a well-developed understanding of its history and the contemporary transformation imperatives – in line with the mandate of both the Cricket Boland and Cricket South Africa (CSA).

Fortuin worked in local government in the Western Cape for more than five years. Before his appointment as Cricket Boland CEO, he was employed at one of the world’s largest consulting firms. He holds an honours degree in Development Studies, specialising in economics, from the University of the Western Cape, as well as a BA degree in Economics from the same institution.

“I am excited about the new challenges which come with the position of Cricket Boland CEO. I am cognisant that I am following in the footsteps of a Boland and South African cricket icon in Omar Henry. I look forward to engaging with all Cricket Boland and CSA stakeholders during my tenure,” Fortuin said.

Cricket Boland president Angelo Carollissen welcomed Fortuin’s appointment, describing it as a “new era” for the union. “With a strong corporate governance background, as well background in cricket administration, Fortuin will be an asset to cricket and the development of the game in the region,” he said.
“His background in economics and finance, together with his passion for cricket will play a pivotal role in cementing Cricket Boland as one of the top cricketing unions in the country.”

Carollissen further lauded Fortuin’s knowledge in the importance of transformation within cricket. “Transformation, on and off the field, remains at the pinnacle of the Cricket Boland’s goals; Fortuin echoes the sentiment of both the Cricket Boland and CSA in this regard,” Carollissen explained.
“As one of the largest unions in the country, Boland has its fair sets of challenges, but I am certain Fortuin will tackle these with vigour and dogged determination. On behalf of the Cricket Boland, I welcome Fortuin to our beautiful region and wish him well on his journey with us.”
